Expressive and fresh with savoury herb notes, spice and minerals alongside the lovely, lifted red fruit. This Clos in Chenôve was originally called “Le Clos des Ducs”, as it was a possession of the Dukes of Burgundy. The vineyard was renamed Clos du Roy in 1477, after the defeat at Nancy of the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, and the subsequent annexation to the Kingdom of France of his lands. A gentle slope with rich clay and limestone soil and perfect exposition, Clos du Roy is one of Burgundy’s better-kept secrets.

No one has done more for the reputation of Marsannay as much as Pataille. A trained oenologist who consults for other elite Burgundian domaines, Pataille has accumulated 15ha of organic and biodynamic vines since starting out with a single hectare in 1999, producing delicious and accessible Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligote, using indigenous yeasts and minimal added suphur.

Pronounced in every sense, a real treat. A wine built to last.
